I’m going to disagree and say why would anyone’s ear be “trained” for a time limit. When is the last time that was a thing on a national stage???

It’s the same way you remember a song you haven’t heard in decades. It’s like muscle memory. It isn’t just what was said but the way in which it was said. There could be a few reasons for it but I think it was an odd slip up on his part.

Guess you didn’t watch any NWA or WCWs in the 80s or early to mid 90’s? Also, it was very common place in other territories as well. WWF never did it to my knowledge.

Yeah, they're over as fuck despite the booking.

The only thing I can think of is they're saving them for later, and also waiting to see if Luchasaurus can actually wrestle a regular schedule without injuring himself. He had several big pushes planned in Lucha Underground, but he got injured EVERY FUCKING TIME. Then after LU with the launch of Bar Wrestling, same fucking thing. Wrestled one match setting up a match for the next show, and he got injured again.

What were the injuries?

Yeah I'd wait on them. That team chasing the tag titles is the way to go long term.

Tama Tonga posting pics of Kushida and Finn in Japan with his family. Wonder if it'll lead to GOD coming over pr a working relationship with NJPW.

Omega vs. Janella from Dark tonight was fucking incredible and better than anything WWE has done in months, if not this whole year.

That didn't take long. Luchasaurus has a pulled hamstring, and is out of the show tonight.

AEW has now signed Jungle Jack!

And they did it by adding Mark Stunt as an alternate.

I loved it. No show is ever perfect but AEW feels vibrant and alive right now and WWE hasn't felt that way since Punk in 2011

The only thing I didn't like last night is I felt like they should've been hyping up the title match all throughout the show. Do video packages on Darby and let the audience get to know him. Have him discuss what winning the title would mean to him and his long he's dreamed of it. He could talk about how he grew up watching Jericho, I know the announcers mentioned it but it's not the same. It would have built more anticipation instead of "well here's the next match and oh yeah it's a title match." They could have cut down the SCU match a few minutes (and it kinda needed to end earlier anyway) to give Darby some time. It felt a little Bush league.

Everything else was great and the title match itself was awesome as far as tv title matches go

I do agree that the SCU/Best Friends match and the pre-match attack went for quite awhile. But at the same time, it didn't make anything else on the show feel rushed. A video package like you described is pretty cool, but part of me also feels like I'm glad they didn't do it. It seems to me that usually when those types of packages are made, it's in a situation like this where the fan favorite underdog is getting their shot but you know that they just aren't gonna win because of the timing. Jericho's got Cody at Full Gear. The odds of those plans being changed to Darby vs Cody are pretty much nothing, same with changing it to Jericho vs Darby vs Cody.

So while it would've been kind of nice, it also would've been kind of a bigger giveaway that he's gonna lose. I think the fight he put up was more than enough to get people to rally behind him moving forward. I also like how they had the ending go, cause I don't see Darby Allin submitting under normal circumstances. But Jericho not only taped his hands behind Darby's back, but also had interference from Jake and even then Darby almost overcame the odds.

Darby was booked to look like a star and he lived up to it, and Jericho did his best to put Darby over in defeat as well. Good booking all around.

I also appreciated how PAC ended up taking a very rare pin for him these days (I believe that's only his 2nd pinfall loss in 2 years), but he got screwed over pretty hard with the Death Rider DDT from Moxley, then the V Trigger from Kenny, the flipping lariat from Adam Page, and then the Deadshot. I don't think that loss will hurt PAC whatsoever.

I was disappointed the Best Friends lost cause they're my favorite tag team in AEW and I thought they'd make it to round 2 or even the finals, but I kind of saw the writing on the wall once Lucha Bros attacked SCU and Scorpio Sky stepped in for Christopher Daniels. It could've gone the other way though, where Lucha Bros interference cost SCU their spot and SCU retaliates later to cost them their match against Jurassic Express but that's not what we got. Seems like the finals will come down to Lucha Bros vs SCU. That's cool with me. Hard to tell who's gonna win that one.

Speaking of Lucha Bros and Jurassic Express, it's a shame Luchasaurus got injured before the show and couldn't participate, but holy hell Marko Stunt impressed the crap out of me. I've not seen him actually wrestle beyond the few spots he's done in AEW, so I was under the impression that he was a small guy who loved wrestling and knew how to do a few cool spots and could take sick bumps and had some charisma. But apparently he can really really goooooooo, they were an amazing team together. I also loved that Marko rode Jungle Boy to the ring, hahahaha. Jurassic Express is MONEY.

LAX got an easy win and that's fine, though they could've sped it up a little bit. Took their sweet time with their entrance and kind of jerked around during the match too. But nothing else felt like it was hurt by this, so it's ultimately fine.

Riho and Britt Baker was excellent, I liked the ending a lot. Britt beat herself, basically. Well done.

My biggest complaint with AEW (I did not watch last night's show yet), is that they really really want you to watch their various Youtube videos to get the backstories for the wrestlers/matches, rather than incorporating that into the actual show.
