Official NJPW/ROH Thread
I understand what you mean. A lot of times they lack "it." I think it is their production equipment and their storylines...just the overall presentation.

If anyone is interested in watching, you can see it here (split into multiple links)

Speaking of not having "it", unpopular opinion time but....I've never been that impressed by Adam Cole

I'm not sold either. He can wrestle well enough. His promos are not bad. But he is missing something. It is a little surprising because if you listen to his interview with Steve Austin, he really seems to have it all together and is not a complete idiot.

If he is NXT bound, I will miss his ROH theme:

It is pretty damn catchy.

I dig that concept belt. Would have been a better choice to go with that one.

That was a world title concept belt but yeah, I agree. If you look up the 3rd generation IWGP it would have been perfect as a US title design.

Finally finished the Sakura Genesis show this morning. The second half of that show was something else. I loved how everything picked up.

I enjoyed how quick the Kushida v Takahashi match. For how short it was, it was pretty hard hitting and straight to the point. I'm thoroughly enjoying watching Takahashi defend that championship and hopefully there are greater things on the horizon for him.

Okada v Shibata... Fuck man. I felt uneasy watching the match because of the aftermath and not knowing exactly when the headbutt was coming. It took me out of it a bit. Those two went all in though and the hits those two were throwing and taking was awesome. Great match.

Win the Day!

I'm skimming through these Road to Wrestling Dontaku shows and watching the matches that catch my eye. Most of them seem like throw away matches.

I always find it funny that you know who's losing and taking the L by the lineups in the multi man matches. I know that whenever I see a Young Lion or Yoshi Tatsu, they're taking the fall.

That time Hannibal Buress coincidentally wandered cluelessly into one of the greatest wrestling shows of all time.

A few notes:

-Adam Cole was at the ROH tv tapings tonight. I'm not sure what happened with him. He also has an Indy date on June 10.

- Kushida defeated Marty Scurll for the ROH TV Championship.

-Chuck Taylor is now in ROH.

Probably just an easier version for us round-eyes. It really isn't that hard to navigate if you let Google translate everything or use symbols.

I really like that IWGP US belt, very throwback. Also, I've been translating a bunch of Japanese shit for Sasuke over on twitter. Dunno if he will ever do anything with it or not though but it's @silvamore if he decides to post any of it up for the public.

And despite my half sarcastic comments awhile ago, I have gotten started to really get into NJPW, lol.

The multi-man tags were awesome when I first started watching. It showed who was in what faction and introduced everybody at pretty much a rapid pace. They get fucking tiring though. So many people in repeat matches that it'll make your head spin.

Win the Day!

It's the same way with Lucha Libre and kind of with WWE. It is a way to give the fans some matches without impacting storylines. How many B.S. tag team main events have we seen. I'm not a fan, but I understand why they do it.

I think it was so exhausting and repetitive to me because I was watching everything one after another after another trying to catch up on the year. I'm sure once I am fully caught up and there are days in between shows it'll feel a lot less tiring.

WWE buying ROH would cut their legs out from under them.

I do think they should do a Wrestling World event. WWE gets a match, NJPW gets a match, etc...

Do crossover matches. Cena vs Okada, Lesnar vs Fale

Of course Vince is gonna want mainevent and a chunk of the gate.

New Japan does not want or need WWE. It would be cool for fans but completely unnecessary. If NJPW had no relationship with ROH starting today, they would only be losing out on TYB which they seem to do just fine without them. For now, NJPW US can use a few established Japan stars, a few of the top indy names not under contract (Like Lio Rush, ZSJ, Keith Lee, Cody, A. R. Fox, etc.) and then just build guys from scratch at their version of the performance center.

Latest on Honma and Shibata, from NJPW: https://www.njpw1972.com/8314

TL;DR - Honma is rehabbing and even doing some light running. Shibata at least isn't dead.

Quote:Update on the health conditions of Tomoaki Honma and Katsuyori Shibata from NJPW medical trainer Takeshi Misawa

Just prior to the business strategy announcements made yesterday on May 16, NJPW trainer Takeshi Misawa was joined by Chairman Sugayabashi and President Harada to give an update on the health conditions of Tomoaki Honma and Katsuyori Shibata. He also outlined New Japan’s health policy for its wrestlers.

Misawa firstly explained that Honma has been moved from a hospital specializing in cervical vertebrae to a rehabilitation hospital in Osaka. While his discharge date is currently unknown, he has begun muscle training at the gym with permission from doctors. His rehabilitation includes activities such as light running as well.

As for Shibata, his original condition was considered to be life threatening. However, after follow up operations he has now been moved to the general ward. While he currently has no trouble walking and talking, it is impossible to comment right now on any possible after-effects due to his condition. He is currently focused on being discharged from the hospital, so he asks for everyone to “send your shouts of support.”

Next, a description of New Japan Pro-Wrestling’s Medical Committee highlighted efforts to support the health and well-being of NJPW wrestlers. The Committee consists of a team including neurosurgeons, spinal specialists, orthopedic surgeons, and New Japan Pro-Wrestling trainers. Misawa elaborated, “The Medical Committee decides on the best course of action to deal with these circumstances,” referring to accidents during matches or training. The Medical Committee’s function in these scenarios is to quickly assess the best treatment and support the immediate follow through of that treatment through its network of professionals.

As of 6 years ago, all New Japan wrestlers undergo a yearly MRI and CT scan. This data is analyzed by the Medical Committee to assess each wrestler’s condition. Also, medical staff are on-hand at venues to monitor for health risks and help prevent injuries.

Finally, it was announced that the Medical Committee will limit the number of matches a wrestler may compete in during a series if there is any question over the wrestler’s health.

They also announced the first night will air live on AXS TV. They'll also air the 2nd night but it won't be live and will air a few days later.

And of course, both shows are airing live on NJPW if you have it.
