Kevin Love agreed to a 4-year extension. Happy about that. It'll be interesting to see how he and Collin Sexton work together.

Right now it's to keep fans coming to games since attendance will most likely take a blow. It depends on how they perform on whether they keep him all 4 years. I really hope they dont trade him ever but if they're bad to the point of having to tank for picks they may have no choice.

They're in the East where a .500 record gets you a 5th seed these days.

Don't have to. They can tank this year for all I care. They will free up the remainder of JR/TT's contract, get a good pick in next year's lottery, potentially get some assets back if they decide to move Clarkson/Hill and use this season to build on what they do have. Nobody expects them to be any good so it's not like the pressure is on to win any more.

Can't disagree there.

The other problem is coaching. We'll see how good Lue really is now without Lebron/Kyrie there to make him look good.

Very sad loss to the sports world. He did a lot for the Seahawks as well and kept both them and the Blazers intact when others wanted them moved.

Just speaking from the Trail Blazers side here, because fuck the Seahawks.

On one hand, this is a huge loss because he really did care for this team and keeping it here. He was always adamant that the team was going to stay in Portland no matter what. Yes, he did put the team up for sale in the mid 2000's, but that was an extremely rocky time for the team and the fans were really turning their backs on them. They had just ended the Jail Blazers era and were drafting players such as Ha Seung-Jin, Viktor Khryapa and Sergei Monia. Those were Allen picks as he was always extremely hands on with the drafting process.

That leads me to the other hand, it was extremely hard to be a GM of this team with Allen as the owner. It was that extreme hands on approach that led to those rough years. GM's and coaching won't fear having Allen over ride them at any given moment. With Allen, you didn't want to do anything to get on his bad side or you were really left out to hang. Example, firing Tom Penn, who was Kevin Pritchard's assistant GM as a kind of "drive-by" warning and then firing Pritchard an hour before the draft but expecting him to still run the draft.

There's little doubt that the team will eventually be sold. His sister doesn't care much for the Blazers and his company cares even less because they're still the ones that have to pay going forward. They won't want to continue funding what they think is just one of Allen's hobbies. I'm really hoping that there's a local team of investors that will come together to make the purchase and then will step aside and allow basketball people make basketball decisions for the team.

I know nothing of the background but it seems he let the Seahawks management run the team and didn’t interfere. Wonder why the difference?

Allen always considered himself more of a basketball guy than a football guy. He was very vocal about his love for the NBA Draft and all of the inner workings. He was in that draft room every single year that he owned the team. At times he definitely seemed like he treated it more as a hobby and a play thing the way he would tinker with it.

His distrust most likely came from the Bob Whitsitt GM era, or as he's known locally, Trader Bob. He brought arguably some of the best group of talents to Portland during his tenure and wasn't afraid to pull the trigger on trades or signing players. Even some that weren't so popular such as letting Brian Grant walk, trading Jermaine O'Neal for Dale Davis and acquiring Ruben Patterson. There was an insider term that everybody used and it was SPAM. Stood for Spending Paul Allen's Money as he wasn't afraid to open the wallet during this time to get players here.

After Whitsitt resigned, and was then fired a year later from the Seahawks GM position as well, Allen was never the same in the way he treated his GM's or the team in Portland. He wasn't as lax with his money and kept a close eye on every single aspect of the Blazers going forward. It doesn't help any that a few of the GM's have offered terrible contracts to sub par players which has had the team in a bad position salary cap wise for I don't even know how many years now.
