Good attitude to have, and a great analogy. I'm a fan of the car method myself.
Sure its great once you just get it. Smells nice, feels like you're going places then all of a sudden your dumping money into something that just gives you more and more shit until you realize its time to let it go to someone who has the time and effort to keep that high mileage clunker acting right and get yourself into a younger model with less miles and easier to customize.

The pay is good because of working 60 hours a week and getting all that overtime money. However, in the process it has completely killed every other aspect of my life. My friends generally never talk to me anymore because I'm never available to do things with them. My girlfriend dumped me because I never got to spend time with her. I haven't been to them gym on a regular basis in months. I don't have time to work on my graphic design portfolio or build an online portfolio. Even on my days off I sleep half the day away leaving little time to run errands. All of this on top of trying to finish school part time.
The worst thing is that I get bored out of my mind at work. It's a George Jetson job just pushing a button. I've never felt like more of a toothless cog spinning freely in the machine of society. I'm trying to find something different till I finish school. I'd like to get back into retail, but haven't had much luck. I'm getting close to just going back to rent-to-own stores for work, which I don't want to. But, if I want to live a normal life again I might have to do it.
This is me, except i have a degree. But work a job 55-60 hours a week and never get to do anything with friends because of which, and like you said, when i do have free time im running errands and trying to catch up on sleep
Sucks and i hate it but now that im in, i dont have time to job search/interview with any other companies because i can never take time off. I can only get to the gym on friday, saturday and sundays because of my schedule and my friends are slowly drifting away
Only hope i have at the moment is that someone will see my resume after i put in a year with this company and offer me a better position where ill actually be able to have a life outside of work. If i get promoted i will make $50k/year and a percentage of all sales (and this is possible within the next 6 months) but its extremely difficult as there is a set list of steep qualifications

RE: What's going on in your life?
I'm at a crossroads right now, I can't stay the course anymore and that kinda breaks my heart. After four years of being able to afford my house on a part time basis I can't do it anymore. I'm not in any kind of danger of losing anything, this house is damn near mine but if I don't move now I'll regret it as I have 2 opportunities staring me in the face. I can either transfer out of my "comfort zone" and go to the Team Brown center right down the street or I can stay at my hub and go be an apartment groundskeeper in a well off neighborhood. They both have advantages and disadvantages.
If I do the groundskeeper thing I'll make more money overall & get to holla at rich broads but it'll be a ton of wear & tear on my car and to be perfectly honest I fucking HATE driving and I'll be in a very heavily populated area. It's monkey work but i'd gross an extra $1600 month, which for me would be living like a king. Option two is the transfer and it's not a bad option. I'd only get a couple more hours a day but at my pay rate an extra 12-15 hours a week could be as much as $300 a week. I'd have to kick ass cuz this center works unlike my panzy ass center but I'd welcome that, it'd be nice to be surrounded by people that don't bring you down. I'm leaning towards the groundskeeper gig but I have until April 1st to decide and I'm a fickle mofro sometimes.
TL;DR - I need mo' money
