Kevin Smith's Comic Book Men
Watched the first episode. God that show is horrible.

For those that didn't see it, the show was split up over 3 different narratives:

- Rip off of Pawn Stars, only with people bringing stuff into the comic book store. Its just not that interesting. No variety. The guys don't seem to actually know that much about some of the products. And they just don't have enough interesting things to say.

- Following them to a flea market where they're trying to blow out overstock. Just an excuse for some bad rumor and watching the old guy pick on the asian kid.

- Watching them record a podcast where they talk about the events in the episode you are watching.

And throughout the whole time, the old bearded guy who doesn't official work there is just a sour dick bag. "Watch me pick on the asian kid" gets old quick.

The whole show was just a big old bag of fail all round. Kevin Smith is the only interesting thing about the show, and he only shows up in the podcast section, where they tell you what you just watched, or tell you what you're about to watch. I watched that part already pick hole, I don't need you to tell me what I just saw. None of the other people have any charisma or have anything interesting to say.

/Please note, I am not a Kevin Smith hater. I even enjoyed Cop Out.

Eh, I enjoyed it. But, I'm also a comic book guy. And since the first episode did better numbers than the very first episode of Walking Dead, I'm sure it'll be around a while.

RE: Kevin Smith's Comic Book Men
it was okay. they weren't really saying how much stuff was worth more like what they were willing to pay for. The old dude is funny but pickin on Ming or whatever got old real quick.

RE: Kevin Smith's Comic Book Men
As a fan of KS and listener to a bunch of the SMOD network of podcasts, I checked it out. To be honest, Tell 'Em Steve Dave is probably my favorite on the network. So I checked it out, partly to see who exactly I was listening to. I never googled them or anything.

With that said, the show is alright. I didn't know what to expect when it aired, and you're completely right about the Pawn Stars model. It's definitely that. Cutting to them talking about things was stupid to me, I hated that part. I didn't have a huge problem with the flea market thing. I mean, it wasn't particularly funny, but if they want to explore doing more than just Pawn Stars stuff, it's a start, I guess. As for busting Ming's balls, I didn't have an issue with it, but then again, they do that a lot on the podcasts, and it's generally in good fun.

The biggest problem for me is the timeslot. 8 PM on a Sunday is tough, and for instance I believe this Sunday HBO will return with Eastbound & Down. So I probably won't see many more. I mean I know I could download, DVR, etc, but at this point it's not worth that effort.

I am not into comics at all and barely listen to Kevin smith's podcast any more, that being said I actually liked it. It was sort of a rough start but I'm sure they will get more comfortable after a few eps.

TELL'EM STEVE DAVE!!!

With that said, I didn't catch it. I'm going to have to find it and give it a DL when I get home. TESD is also my favorite of the SMODcast podcasts.

Picking on Ming is a large part of the podcast as well.

This show is destined to peter out. Like you said its got the same formula as Pawn Stars, and that just cannot last very long. Love Kevin Smith stuff but I don't know what he was thinking in doing this show.

What he was thinking? Getting paid. AMC gave him $500k at least, based off the numbers thrown around by him and Carolla on a recent podcast together.

What will be interesting to see is if his built-in audience can carry it and if it can attract other viewers.

I liked the show. Granted the $100 for the chucky doll was waaaaaay overpaying. But the show was pretty cool.

Horrible show and I love comics and Kevin smith. First episode #s don't matter if they return for episode 2 then it has a chance. I'm predicting a huge drop.

I wish they would drop the pawn stars stuff actually. Just the stuff like fucking with Ming and other fun stuff like based off the podcast would be awesome.

RE: Kevin Smith's Comic Book Men
I loved the first episode! Im a ridiculously huge comic geek though, so it was col seeing people try to sell off Dracula 10 first appearence of Blade. Ya its like Pawn Stars but alot of shows have that same MO and Pawn Stars wasnt the first in relaity tv to use it, so lets calm down people LOL.

Ep2 was ok

The Jason Mewes segments seemed really scripted and this show is kinda sorta shot as reality tv

I couldnt tell the Jay skit was scripted, i was kinda thought that dude acted like that all time time, not the action figure stuff so much but just generality.

Mewes seemed strung out again. Wonder if he's back on the heroin?

Also in an interesting development, for the second week in a row I got laid halfway through the show. Not complaining at all but just seems like weird subject matter to turn the Mrs. Into a sex kitten.

RE: Kevin Smith's Comic Book Men
You could tell he was strung out just looking at dudes face, deep eyes, look of just not all there washed over his face every second. He looked healthier when he showed up for the podcast part though.

Jay is deff back on heroin that's all I could think when they showed him. That show was horrible, just another way for Kevin Smith to rape his fans. Also holy shit at his 5XL hockey jersey that fucker is huge.

He's not strung out he was playing up to his jay character and what he's known for. Not defending him since I don't know him personally but he was obviously being goofy for the sake of it.

RE: Kevin Smith's Comic Book Men
I don't think he's "definitely back on heroin" considering he's still doing his podcasts, with Kevin all the time, etc.

Now I'm not saying he couldn't be doing it. Of course he could be. But the idea that for sure he's slipped, I don't think so.
