Some one needs to explain this fascination with college sports... i don't get it.

@Dunk: College sports is a lot more synonymous with sports fans because no matter where in the states you live, you have a team close by that you can cheer for and follow closely. With the pros, it's not so much the same because there are so many states without any professional teams (Iowa, Idaho, Nevada, Arkansas, Alabama;etc) so you have the widest variety of who you can cheer for making it somewhat less easier to share that in common with others close by. You also have to remember that fans of college teams are not only associated by the geographic region but alumni and those connected to alumni. Plus, the atmosphere is unlike anything you'll ever be around and there has always been the general respect factor that they are college kids that are going out there without any large demanding contract and are representing their universities and communities rather than one giant organization.

true, but they ARE going out with with the HOPES that they might get signed to the NBA if they are good enough, so they do have something to prove. There are a lot of kids in college who hope to be signed to the pros in whatever sport they are involved in. I think it's sad because the (usually) free education they are getting isn't what's most important to them. That shot at the pros is always in the back of their mind.

With me I HATE college football because I think it's just a big money making scam. How can a computer/popularity contest choose your champion? Play that shit out like a real sport as you could still have your crappy Bowl games that nobody gives a shit about. It infuriates me that unless we get a playoff system there's a 99.9% chance I'll never get to see my Michigan State Spartans play for a title so it makes me wonder why I should even bother watching.

NCAA basketball on the other hand I freekin' love as it has my favorite playoff system besides the NFL. Sixty-eight teams, one championship and with all the parity that's becoming the norm in most sports almost any team can make a run to the Final Four as we've seen Butler and George Mason makes title game appearances in recent years. Selection Sunday, which is on the day of the Big Ten Tournament Championship is a holiday for me.
