Is this true(my american friends)
Watching the newest episode of the Office(last thursday)

Pam comes back from maternity leave already(still huge btw), I say to my wife, wow they just skipped a bunch of months to get her back on the show and she said you only get 8 weeks in the states, then they say

"has it already been 8 weeks?"

Is that true, you only get 8 weeks mat leave down there? If so thats fucking horrible and pathetic or if you have your own medi care do you get more time??

We get 1 year up here.

wow

If wrong and the Office is stupid, disregard this message

RE: Is this true(my american friends)
Quote:The Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA) is a law that requires most companies to allow their employees up to 12 weeks of unpaid family leave time after the birth of their child. The FMLA applies to both men and women and is also available for those that adopt a child. If the parents work for the same company, the 12 weeks is then divided between the two of them and is an accumulation of both of their time (i.e.,. each could take 6 weeks off; one could take 4 weeks while the other takes 8 weeks).

From the google.

50% of Americans don't even believe health care is a right, and this suprises you?

I heard a neo-con compare being taxed for government health care to being ENSLAVED last week.

Well here in America we pay pay to have kids. If a lady chooses to push out 5 or 6 kids while also choosing to work part time at a fast food joint, she gets a major tax credit. I work in a bank, and I cashed checks this whole last month for people that make 12,000 a year but got enough tax credit to bring them up to what I do for working full time. You may have yours for free, but we pay our girls to get knocked up.

True story.. my wife and I want kids. For us as a married couple, both employed full time, homeowners, all that.. she works for the government too.. it's going to cost us around $3500 after insurance to have a kid. Not to mention all the formula and diapers and what not. Now, if we were not married and just living together, I could knock her up and claim to not be around, and she'd deliver for free, get free food and all that. The system is effed.

RE: Is this true(my american friends)
exactly Bizzle... it seems to me the only people really getting "fucked" in this great country of ours is the middle class... Johnny work a 40hr week to provide for his family gets charged anywhere between $150-$800 a month for decent medical insurance... not to mention most have huge co-payments or initiation payments.. while we have drug dealers making $100s if not $1,000s a week selling drugs on top of getting free medical and welfare/foodstamps each kid raising the amount they get.. having 4-5 kids collecting another 10k at the end of the year in tax returns... not to mention child care... these fucks get completely free child care and I'm not talking only to shit hole ghetto child care places they get vouchers to go to just about any place... Johnny work 40hrs a week? Nope pay full price of over $100 a week per kid.... system flawed? I think so

I swear if working class people were smart they would never get married have 3-4 kids with the woman they love... let her claim she is all alone... let her collect medical/wic/welfare/foodstamps hell she can even get free college... even when they come after you for child support just pay it to her and since your still with her it doesn't really matter... claim you live with your parents but live with her anyways... that 1 slice of paper saying your married is costing you $1,000s each and ever month... if scum bags can collect all this shit why shouldn't decent hard working people?

Believe me, we've thought about it. Now, I make no secrets that my wife and I are spiritual people. We got married because for us, it was the right thing to do. However, I'm not opposed to keeping our religious beliefs and honoring our marriage but screwing the government instead of being screwed, haha.

I talked to my wifey about it, and turns out, she makes too much money for that to work. Maybe one day when I hit bank manager and she can take some small piddly part time thing. Maybe then.

base income rate in canada is 15% federal, 4% provincial.
base income in the US for someone actually employed is ~3-6% (assuming they live in a state with no income tax)

1. canada has far less people than the us.
2. canada has almost no defense budget
3. canada has less scum sucking up entitlements
4. canada has less veteran retirement/medical entitlements

so yes, you guys can afford that shit, we can't. now if only we were as smart as canada and actually enforced immigration laws, and had actual immigration standards... we might be able to afford it too.

edit: i still think income in the us should be 10% federal, 5% state across the board.. no matter how much you make, or what sort of credits you receive from the gubment. make a dollar, 10c to uncle same, 5c to downtown. of course, the irs would get severely downsized.. yay

RE: Is this true(my american friends)
Most women I know only take 6 weeks off work.

Counting the Dr and the hospital, the birth of my son (induction turned emergency c-section) has so far totaled around 15k, and after insurance pays we will owe around 7k. Plus we paid $1,500 ahead of time to my Dr as a copay for what insurance wouldnt cover for office visits. We also owe $600 for an ultrasound at a specialist.

Im keeping track so I can present the kid with the bills when he turns 18. "You're welcome for me giving you life, now here's your bill."
